Licence, Passwords and Software Protection |
|
Q. |
Can I install Jet-Tech on
multiple PC's? |
|
A. |
No. All Jet-Tech software products are single user,
single installation licenses. |
|
Q. |
Why do I need a password
to un-lock my software? |
|
A. |
All Jet-Tech products are protected
from illegal copying or duplication. A password is provided to customers who
have purchased the software legitimately.
When the software is
installed, it generates a unique KeyCode from that installation. When we
receive the KeyCode, it generates a unique password for that specific
installation. If the password is entered correctly, the software is
'un-locked' and the installation completed. If the password is entered
incorrectly or if the software is re-installed on the same or a different
machine after the KeyCode is generated, the password will not work and the
software will shut down - with the comment "Status check 'x' ILLEGAL SOFTWARE
COPY". This is to prevent
illegal copying of the software. Should you encounter problems with the
installation or need to re-install Jet-Tech, please
consult these FAQ's first. If you still need help, please contact us
using the support request form here. |
|
|

Transferring your Jet-Tech License |
|
Q. |
How do I transfer my
Jet-Tech software to another computer? |
|
A. |
The Jet-Tech license is sold to
run on a single computer
so cannot be installed on multiple machines.
However you can transfer your
Jet-Tech license
to another computer - for example, if you have purchased a new laptop etc.
If you have purchased a new
computer and wish to transfer your Jet-Tech license to it, please download
the instructions for your product from this link:
Jet-Tech License Transfer
Instructions
NB. Please ensure that
you make a note of your settings before you start the transfer process. The
easiest way to do this is to take screen-shots of the main Jet-Tech screens.
To do this open Jet-Tech and 'unlock' to reveal the settings, then hold down
the 'CTRL' key and press the 'PRTSC' key. Open Microsoft Paint or Word and
click on 'Edit' from the main menu. Click 'Paste' and this will paste the
screen-shot onto the page. You can then save the picture/document with your
settings, which can then be put into the new installation.

Software
Set-up Process |
|
Q. |
Why do I need to 'set up'
my software? |
|
A. |
After you
have installed and registered your software,
you need to calibrate and
'match' it to your specific engine/carburettor combination/s.
As
you are probably aware, no two engines are exactly the same. Even though
they may have a 'factory' specification and be factory sealed, they all have
different characteristics. When you add in the variables such as choice of
needle, floats, plugs, pilot jets and the weather, they vary quite
considerably. This is why we have designed the software to allow each
individual user to 'match' it to their particular engine and carburettor
combination.
This set up procedure is a one-time process. The only time you would have to
repeat it is if you had a major engine rebuild, or indeed if you replace you
engine. Added to the unique barometer calibration feature, this set up
process helps us to achieve a very high level of accuracy.

Q. |
How do I set up my
software? |
|
A. |
After you
have installed and registered your software,
you need to calibrate and
'match' it to your specific engine/carburettor combination/s. This set up
procedure consists of: 1. calibration of your barometer - this takes a few
minutes to do, and 2. a few test runs in the kart to match your software to
your engine configurations. You can do this on a test day or during practice
at an event.
When you set-up the
software, you create a 'Main Jet Factor' and 'Needle Design Factor' which is unique
to your engine/carb combination. If you have more than one engine/carb, you
will set-up a needle design/main jet factors for each.
So, for example, if you use
Engine 'A' with Carb 'A', you would have 1 setup saved for that combination. Engine
'B' with Carb 'B' would have a second setup saved for that combination. Setting up the
software is a one-time process (unless you have a major re-build or change
your carb). Once established, all you then do is enter the setup
for your chosen combination (if you changed it from your previous outing),
add the weather information and the software will give you the correct jet,
needle clip position and plug type to use.

Barometers/Weather Stations |
|
|
|
Q. |
What type of barometer or
weather station should i use? |
|
A. |
As with any instrument, we
suggest that you go for the best quality unit within your budget. You will
require a unit that provides temperature, humidity and barometric pressure
such as the
Jet-Tech Weather PRO. A unit with a remote sensor is ideal because it allows you to keep
the head-unit near your laptop whilst collecting accurate readings from the
sensor. |
|
|
|
Q. |
Are there any barometers
or weather station that I shouldn't use? |
|
A. |
We wouldn't recommend any unit
that is hand-held because its likely that your body temperature would affect
the readings. In addition, to get accurate readings, you want a unit that
can be placed at 'engine' height in the shade so units directly plugged in
to your laptop are unlikely to give you accurate readings relative to what's
going on out on the track. |
|
|
|
Q. |
Why do I need to
calibrate my barometer? |
|
A. |
Barometers and Weather Stations
are mass-produced items and even the best ones, as such, don't give
completely accurate readings relative to the 'true' conditions. Jet-Tech
gives you the facility to calibrate your unit using data from meteorological
sources with far more advanced weather measuring instruments. By taking
advantage of this unique Jet-Tech feature, you can achieve an accuracy of
0.299% or better! |
|
|
|
Q. |
How do I calibrate my
barometer? |
|
A. |
Jet-Tech provide (in each
application) a unique, copyright feature that enables you to calibrate your
barometer. Full details are in the help files that come with the product.
Click on the "System Locked" button to un-lock the Jet-Tech screen. Select
"Calibrate" (top-right of the barometer image on the Jet-Tech screen) then
click on the ? in the bottom left corner of the Jet-Tech screen to access
the barometer calibration help file.

|
|
Q. |
Where and when should I
calibrate my barometer? |
|
A. |
The best days to calibrate
software / barometer setup are calm windless days as these days are a sign
of no steep pressure gradients and therefore you will get a more accurate
correlation between your own barometer readings and MSL (Mean Sea Level
pressure) that you get from weather information websites or forecasters.
Ideally you should calibrate your barometer at a location that you know the
altitude (height above sea level) of. If you are calibrating at home, you
may be able to find this information from a mapping website such as
www.multimap.com or your local
geographical survey office. Most maps (including web-based maps) show
contour lines and their altitude) which can be traced to your location.
A useful site for altitude
information in the UK can be found via the CWOP (Citizen Weather Observer
Program) weather stations locations website:
http://www.wxqa.com/states/unitedkingdom.html On the webpage, click on a
location near to you to open up the information.
Change the satellite picture to 'Map' then
if you click on the red station id flag and hold, you can drag the flag to
your exact location and the resulting data (longitude, latitude and
altitude) is shown to the left, below the map.
International CWOP Stations can be found at
http://www.wxqa.com/stations.html Just scroll down the page and
then select your country to open up a locations list. Click on a location near to you
to open up the information. Change the
satellite picture to 'Map' then if you click on the red station id flag and
hold, you can drag the flag to your your exact location and the resulting data
(longitude, latitude and altitude) and the resulting data is shown to
the left, below the map. |
|
|
|
Q. |
Where can I find the
weather information I need to calibrate my barometer? |
|
A. |
Depending on your location,
there are many websites that can provide the weather information you need to
calibrate your barometer with Jet-Tech. In the UK you can find the MSL for
your area at
http://www.meto.gov.uk/education/data/index.html or
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ .
In the United States, local
weather information is available from
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/
Weather information for other
areas can be found through
http://www.wunderground.com/ or
http://www.wmo.int/web-en/member.html#list |

Software Default Settings |
|
Q. |
How do I get my software
back to the default settings when it was first installed?
What are the default
settings for my software? |
|
A. |
When you first install Jet-Tech,
it is set to "factory" default settings. These replicate the settings that
you would use if your engine was "out of the box" and identical to all the
others. In reality, each engine/carb combination is different. This why you
fine-tune the software to match your own specific engine/carb combination.
However, you need a starting point! The following documents provide the
default settings by racing class for each Jet-Tech program.

Q. |
Illegal
Software Copy - Software Status check # |
|
A. |
If you get an "illegal operation" or “illegal copy” message it is usually
caused by a Windows issue. However, the software can display an error
message if there is an issue with the activation password. In all of these
instances, the software would also display a "Software Status Check" number.
This is part of the self-diagnostics that is built into the code of Jet-Tech
and helps us to identify a problem.
If, after Jet-Tech has been
installed, the password is entered
incorrectly or if the software is re-installed on the same or a different
machine after the KeyCode is generated, the password will not work and the
software will shut down - with the comment "Status Check '#' ILLEGAL SOFTWARE
COPY - WINDOWS WILL NOW CLOSE". It may shut the PC down. This is to prevent
illegal copying of the software.
If you get an "illegal operation" or "illegal copy" message, please firstly
review the installation instructions and consult the FAQ's on this page as
you may be able to resolve it quickly with the answers provided. If you
encounter the same message again, please contact us using the Support
Request form
HERE.
Please ensure you include the
"Software Status Check" number - it is almost impossible to identify the
cause without it!. |

Q. |
Problems with Microsoft VISTA!!! |
|
A. |
In Microsoft Vista it is
important to have the correct User profile permissions and program
properties set up.
Incorrect permissions can result in the program failing to open properly and
you may get an error message similar to the above. A document showing the
way to check and correctly set up your User Profile and program properties
in Vista is available
here. |

|
Q. |
System
Errors |
|
A. |
System errors are generally
caused by incomplete or missing
.dll files or file links within your Microsoft Windows operating system
registry not by the installation of Jet-Tech. Please see the notes above
regarding checking your system.
To help
repair your Windows registry (after you have downloaded and installed any
Microsoft updates) use a Registry Checker to
check and clean up the Windows Registry
issues such as Eusing Free Registry Cleaner available from

Needle Design Errors |
|
Q. |
What is a Needle Design
Error and what should I do if Jet-Tech indicates this? |
|
A. |
Dellorto produce a large range
of needles for their single-choke carburettors. Each of these needles has a
slightly different profile and therefore affects the performance of your
carburettor. In Jet-Tech PRO you can compare the different needle profiles
and see where they differ across the throttle range. Some are weaker or at
smaller throttle openings, some are richer overall etc etc. In certain
classes of racing, you are restricted on the choice of needle that you can
use - for example in Rotax MAX where the choice is limited to the K27 and
K98. Under certain conditions, the range of adjustment that the needle you
have elected to use has, may not be sufficient to enable a correct setting.
In these circumstances, Jet-Tech will advise you that the needle requires a
setting (either weaker or richer) than it is capable of. If this should
happen, there are a number of things you can do to arrive at a correct
carburettor configuration for the conditions. The following documents
